5 Seconds of Every #1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit From 1993-2011
I don’t know most of these so far…
Wyatt Mason has written a lovely new 3-page article about Regina for the New York Times. It seems like it’s becoming a tradition, because he also interviewed her/ did a write-up before ‘far’ was released three years ago! It’s definitely a must-read. Go check it out:
You guys! This article RULES!!!
Why I like Grand Duchess Anastasia
I found this quote on Anastasia’s Wikipedia page : “She undoubtedly held the record for punishable deeds in her family, for in naughtiness she was a true genius.” This made me laugh and shows her lively nature. Even in the photo above, you can see glimmers of mischief, charm and wit.
The legend of her rumored survival drew a lot of attention to her family, and many can probably say that they found an interest in the Romanovs through the Anastasia mystery.

THE GLOWING HOMELESS
We could not say this better than ignantblog.com…the following is an excerpt from their piece on Fanny Allie’s, The Glowing Homeless
“It is this ghostlike existence, the state of being absent while being present, which is of interest to the French artist Fanny Allié. ‘The Glowing Homeless’ is an installation of neon tubes which represents the silhouette of a sleeping human. It precisely refers to the figure of a homeless person who chooses to perform the actually intimate act of sleeping amongst the park’s crowd but still stays excluded. He becomes a part of the surroundings of trees, benches and playgrounds and is thus almost invisible. Using the warm glow of the neon tubes, the artist creates an alluring object with the aim to bring light in to the darkness of New York’s parks and to change people’s attitude from avoidance into curiosity so they are drawn towards the figure on the bench. Thus Allié brought an object into being that represents the thousands of homeless that face social exclusion and the troubles of street life every day and night and, without becoming monumental, she also manages to aesthetically confront the difficulties of the ongoing art theoretical debate of the merge of private and public space.”

Bonsai Tree Houses by Takanori Aiba
For nearly a decade since the late 1970s artist Takanori Aiba worked as a maze illustrator for Japanese fashion magazine POPYE. The following decade he worked as an architect and finally in 2003 decided to merge the two crafts—the design of physical space and the drawing of labyrinths—into these incredibly detailed tiny worlds. Using craft paper, plastic, plaster, acrylic resin, paint and other materials Aiba constructs sprawling miniature communities that wrap around bonsai trees, lighthouses, and amongst the cliffs of nearly vertical islands.

Multiple shadow house, Olafur Eliasson (2010)
A simple, purpose-built structure, the work Multiple shadow house consists of multicolored lamps in rows shining onto several large projection screens. When a body enters the space and begins to interact with this light installation beautiful and subtle overlaid visions of their shadow fan across the screens – as they move around forward and backward the image is thus altered and can be manipulated. In this way the project is a creative collaboration between the artist, viewer, space and technology. via

Jean Shin. Chemical Balance.
About the project:
To create this work, thousands of empty prescription pill bottles were collected from nursing homes, pharmacies and individuals’ medicine cabinets…Chemical Balance speaks to our culture’s over-consumption of prescription drugs and our bodies’ dependency on these medications. The piece acts like a group portrait, mapping our society’s chemical intake. The illuminated structures radiate with an intense orange glow, suggesting that issues of health reach far beyond the physical.
